Is the Maasai Trails for Me?
Set northwest of the Maasai Mara, lies the “Forest of the Lost Child’, an indigenous forest full of lush flora and fauna. From the thick forest canopies emerge open glades and peaks of over 2,150m. Amazing views stretch as far the eye can see.
Each ‘camp’ is made up 4 x 4 African Bell Tents or Dome Tents, a ‘mess tent’ and bush bathrooms. The tents are comfortable and warm and have every comfort you could need.
The base Camp organizes the journey, where donkeys are prepared to carry camp equipment, ensuring a personalized wilderness experience that supports local communities and preserves their environment and culture.
The Loita Maasai who lead you on these trails are reputed to be the most conservative of this tribe, dedicated to their traditions, ceremonies and rites of passage. As a people, the Maasai have struggled over the years to maintain their culture and have shied away from large scale developments and lodges that comprise other parts of Eastern Africa… thus is the beauty of Maasai Trails. This small low impact camp and mobile camp are a sustainable method to bring income to the local people whilst protecting the natural surroundings of the Loita Hills and sacred Forest, as well as their culture!
