Is the Maxa for Me?
Maxa, Ker & Downey Botswana’s innovative new property is set to open on March 20, 2025, in the South-Eastern Panhandle of the Okavango Delta. Nestled under towering Ebony trees overlooking the permanent Maxa Lagoon, the camp is ideally situated where the nutrient-rich headwaters of the Okavango meet the Selinda Spillway’s meandering channels.
The camp’s philosophy centers around exploration, learning, and immersion in nature, reflected in its unique design. The main area features a freeform separated lounge and dining space under light canvas roofs, partially enclosed by traditional clay walls. A central courtyard with picnic-style tables and a wood-fired oven built into a termite mound adds to the camp’s charm.
Accommodating up to 12 guests, Maxa offers four stretch canvas tents on decks and a family tent, all with ensuite indoor and outdoor bathrooms. Activities include mokoro excursions, guided walking safaris, and nature drives, incorporating local cultural insights. Access to Maxa is via a scenic helicopter transfer from Shinde airstrip, providing breathtaking views of the Okavango World Heritage Site.
