Is the River Farmhouse for Me?
A private house available for groups of 4 to 8, River Farmhouse is designed for perfect out door living – with a huge verandah, sweeping lawns and a magnificent infinity pool looking out over the beautiful Zambezi. On the opposite riverbank wildlife from the Zambezi National Park come down to the river to drink; hippos frequently graze the lush green lawns at night and the birdlife is birder heaven.
The Farmhouse is built to the old colonial bungalow style, with a large lounge and two wings, each with two bedrooms (one double and one twin). The lounge has comfortable leather sofas and an eclectic collection of rugs, furniture and pictures – with a fireplace for cold winter nights. All bedrooms are en suite. The front double rooms have French windows opening onto the verandah, the twin rooms have views over the gardens.
The chef cooks for guests in the open kitchen and serves meals on the verandah, household staff are always on hand and use of the boat for river cruises and fishing is private to the Farmhouse.
The infinity swimming pool is built of Kariba stone which sparkles slightly in the sun. It has a shallow end for small children.
The Farmhouse is a perfect haven of rest after a busy safari with late night and early morning game drives, or after long international journeys. The peace and calm of the riverside setting is in contrast to the bustle of the Zambezi in Livingstone.
Management staff greet guests and work out an activity plan for their stay – in house activities include the obvious tour of the Falls, plus sunset, daytime and dawn cruises, fishing, guided birding, guided tour of Livingstone museum and its markets and a visit to our local village where Waterberry has built and supports the local school. There are dozens of external activities around Livingstone including all the adrenaline river activities, helicopter rides over the Falls, swimming at the top of the Falls and elephant rides. Alternatively guests can just relax on a sun lounger and enjoy the wonderful view.
