Luke Dale Roberts’ Salon, located in Cape Town, South Africa, is Africa’s Best New Restaurant for 2024. The announcement was made at the 5th World Culinary Awards ceremony held in Jumeirah Al Naseem, Dubai, earlier this week. South Africa was named the continent’s best culinary destination, and Cape Town cleaned up as Africa’s Best Culinary City Destination for 2024. La Colombe Group’s EPICE was named Best Restaurant in Africa. The acclaimed Roundhouse saw its Salsify restaurant under Chef Ryan Cole awarded the Best Landmark Restaurant in Africa title for the second time. Roberts is the culinary magician behind other top establishments, including the Pot Luck Club, and continues to set South Africa’s food scene alight with exceptional fine dining experiences. Since opening in April 2023, Salon has made its mark with an inventive multi-course menu that takes inspiration from Luke’s global culinary career.
The Salon Experience
Originally inspired by Luke’s travels over the past twenty years, the menu has now evolved to emphasise seasonality, incorporating global influences drawn from the flavours and ingredients that inspire Luke in collaboration with Carla Schulze – Salon’s Executive Chef, all while maintaining a spirit of constant innovation. Standout dishes include the South African ‘Padkos,’ a playful interpretation of traditional snacks, and an evolving bread course that highlights seasonal ingredients. Salon’s menus are also available with an optional beverage pairing menu with dishes matched to one of the small-batch wines or choose signature Salon cocktails. The restaurant is open for dinner from Tuesdays through to Saturdays, and for lunch from Thursdays through to Saturdays at the Old Biscuit Mill, 375 Albert Road, Woodstock, Cape Town. “Receiving this recognition is a testament to our passionate team and our commitment to pushing culinary boundaries,” said Luke Dale Roberts. “Carla and I are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in such a short time.” Culinary Award-Winners:
