Best Mid-Ride Coffee Shops in Stellenbosch

Author: Tiffany Bowers

Published: 22 February 2021

With Stellenbosch being such a great place to ride this time of the year, cyclists are flooding the area. Surrounded by some great Mountain Bike trails and some steep road climbs, it is known as a hub for many riders.

And if you are in Cape Town, with all the car rental options available, you can quickly drive yourself to Stellenbosch.

Now for many riders, the best part of the ride is the coffee shop in the middle. The part where you can give your legs a short rest and your body some much-needed coffee and cake! But if it’s your first time in Stellenbosch or you are unsure where to grab your next cup of joe then keep reading!

Stellenbosch has ample Coffee Shops and restaurants that allow riders to enjoy an excellent mid-ride snack. But it can often be confusing where to go, so here are some choices!

Here are our three favourite Coffee Stops in Stellenbosch:

  • Bootlegger in Ryneveld Street

Bootlegger is a popular coffee franchise in South Africa. They are popular with cyclists all over because they have two of our favourite things. Coffee and……Banana bread!

Bootleggers banana bread is some of the best I have ever eaten. Pair that with their delicious coffee, and you have a winner.

The Bootleggers has done a great job to make their store cycle friendly with outside seating and bike racks!

  • Ride In Cafe

The places name has “ride” in it. Surely it must be good! Family-run and situated in the Jonkershoek valley, this popular stop is ‘must not miss’.

It is a great place to stop if you have had a trails day in Jonkershoek Nature Reserve!

What is also unique about this cafe, is it has its own blend of coffee called ‘ride in roast’.

Besides that, they serve beer, wine, and lots of food! You won’t be disappointed or hungry!

  • Deluxe Coffee Works

Coffee Works is a great little shop right next to Specialised Stellenbosch. This means it is an excellent stop if you need to pick up spares or just want to browse by the bike shop!

The Shop also boasts a huge flat screen TV to stream all your favourite cycling races. To accompany this, you can order some breakfast, lunch or snacks to refuel!

It can almost seem overwhelming when you see how many great places there are! But it shows how lucky we are to live in this area!
