The world's best destination for land-based whale watching, Hermanus also happens to be surrounded by numerous beaches and coves, a wine valley and beautiful natural scenery.
Between July and November every year, a multitude of southern right whales migrate to the shores of the small seaside town and the former fishing village of Hermanus. They are easy to see from the beach or from the scenic coastal cliff paths that stretch all along and beyond the town.
These paths also connect the town's two main beaches, Voëlklip and Grotto. Here, the sand is white and, although the water is chilly, the beaches are great for families. Both beaches are backed by quiet residential areas.
