Places to Visit in Namibia and Why
Sossusvlei
Sossusvlei is a salt and clay pan in the southern part of Namib-Naukluft Park. It should be on your checklist. Because the sand contains high levels of iron oxide, the region is known for its vibrant dunes.
Dunes found here are some of the highest in the world, providing stunning photography opportunities to capture the vibrant colours and unique formations.
Wildlife found here include the oryx and springbok.
Skeleton Coast
The Skeleton Coast experiences its wet season in April. Although rain is prevalent, the region is still worth visiting for its breathtaking scenery.
As the name suggests, the area is named after its numerous shipwrecks on the shore. It is a great sightseeing opportunity, and the rains make it an excellent time to see different species of birds.
Birds commonly seen in this area are the black bustard, black crake, Egyptian goose, great white pelican, and ostrich. Because of these numerous attractions, photographic safaris are fantastic this month.
Damaraland
One of Damaraland’s prominent features is its stunning natural beauty. The region houses deep canyons and vast plains.
Damaraland is home to the Damara people. Visitors can learn about their traditions through cultural tours and interacting with the local communities.
Wildlife will be less prominent, as April is a wet month. However, birding is an excellent attraction. The region currently houses the South African shelduck, pale chanting goshawk, martial eagle, lappet-faced vulture, white-tailed shrike, and Damara rock runner.
