The best time to visit Rwanda for a safari is during the dry seasons, from June to September and December to February. During these periods, the weather is cooler, and wildlife viewing is optimal as animals congregate around water sources.

High Season vs. Low Season

High Season (June – September)

  • Overview: The long dry season is the peak period for visiting Rwanda, offering the best conditions for gorilla trekking and wildlife viewing.
  • Pros: Ideal for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, with animals easier to spot and trails more accessible.
  • Cons: Higher prices and more crowded parks.

Low Season (March – May & October – November)

  • Overview: The rainy seasons bring fewer tourists and a lush, green landscape.
  • Pros: Lush scenery, fewer tourists, and lower prices. Excellent bird watching.
  • Cons: Trails can be muddy and more challenging for trekking.
