Discover Africa with Barry
Barry is a travel consultant at Discover Africa.
Originally from Pretoria, South Africa, I developed a deep passion for wildlife during countless childhood holidays in the iconic Kruger National Park. This sparked a lifelong dedication to sharing the beauty and wonder of Africa with others.
After school I decided to take a gap year, which turned into 8, where I studied and worked as a chef abroad. However, my heart was always in Africa, so I came back home to pursue my dreams of being a field guide.
After doing my studies and obtaining the entry-level qualification, the bug bit, and I worked my way up to some of the best lodges in Africa as a seasoned field guide and even as a guide trainer. I earned the highest level of qualifications and expertise. (FGASA level 3 and Professional Trails Guide), as well as specialising in birding, African biomes, and a certificate in travel & tourism.
Today, I design bespoke, personalised trips across Africa, showcasing the continent's breathtaking landscapes, incredible wildlife, and rich cultural heritage. Using my on-the-ground knowledge and insights to create the perfect experience.
